The urological clinics of the Diagnostic centre Diagnosti\u010dni center Bled also manage patients with prostate cancer, which unfortunately is the most common cancer in men in Europe as well as in Slovenia. As with any form of cancer, quick and timely diagnosis is important for successful treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy is a diagnostic method used in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. When prostate cancer is suspected, the urologist usually performs several tests (e.g. PSA test, digital rectal examination of the prostate, transrectal ultrasound, prostate MRI, genetic test \u2013 SelectMDx, Proclarix) and decides on it if the results of these tests show the presence of more dangerous forms of prostate cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In our urology clinic in Bled, we now perform two different methods of ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy. We have been performing a well-established transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy, and we have also started performing an ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy through the skin on the perineum (transperineal)<\/strong>. It is a newer method where the urologist uses a biopsy needle to remove prostate tissue through the skin on the perineum. The method is more patient-friendly as the urologist does not take samples through the colon. The incidence of infections is reduced as the needle path goes through the skin. This method is performed at the urology clinic in Bled, while the transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy is performed by our urologists in the urology clinics in Bled, Ljubljana and Novo mesto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In both methods, prostate tissue samples are then sent for analysis to our histopathology laboratory. Depending on the histopathological results, the patient in the urology clinic is then advised on any further treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
