Intra-articular applications of hyaluronic acid preparations

Hyaluronic acid is applied into the joint, when movement of the joint is painful due to joint wear. It is one of the most popular forms of treatment of joint wear.

Hyaluronic acid is a very viscous clear liquid, which improves the smoothness and the mechanical properties of the worn-out cartilage and slows down the progression of the wear.

Under ultrasound control, hyaluronic acid is applied into the large joints – knee, hip, ankle. In order to achieve the optimal effect, the application of hyaluronic acid must usually be repeated three to five times in a one week interval. There are also long-term activity preparations available, which are only applied once. This procedure is expected to reduce pain and improve flexibility for at least half a year.
