Gastroenterology is the science which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of digestive tract disorders – the diseases of oesophagus, stomach, intestines, liver and pancreas. Gastrointestinal disorders account for a significant proportion of diseases among population. Eating habits, pace of life, stress, the environment in which we live and work, and ultimately, inherited predispositions are important factors that could crucially influence the formation and development of gastrointestinal disorders.

The examinations at Diagnostični center Bled are not directed only at detection and treatment, but increasingly so at preventive care, or at prevention of disease development and its early detection.

Gastroenterology is the initial, fundamental and the most extensive activity at Diagnostični center Bled. We pay attention particularly to gastrointestinal endoscopic examination and various endoscopic surgery procedures.

Advanced Endoscopic Procedures (EMR, ESD, EFTR)

At the Diagnostični center Bled, in addition to standard endoscopic examinations (colonoscopy and gastroscopy), we also perform the most advanced, state-of-the-art therapeutic endoscopic procedures for the removal of precancerous and early-stage malignant gastrointestinal lesions. The procedures are carried out by experienced gastroenterology specialists with additional training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy. These techniques allow precise and safe removal of lesions without the need for conventional surgery, when appropriate.

• EMR (Endoscopic Mucosal Resection) – endoscopic removal of superficial lesions confined to the gastrointestinal mucosa.
• ESD (Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection) – a more precise endoscopic technique for en bloc removal of larger or more extensive lesions, enabling more reliable assessment and treatment.
• EFTR (Endoscopic Full-Thickness Resection) – a technique in which the lesion is removed endoscopically together with the full thickness of the gastrointestinal wall, when the lesion extends deeper.
